The SHE Word’s founder and host Trudy Kerr invites three of Malta’s leading men to sit down to discuss one of today’s toughest topics and everything that surrounds it; Male Violence and Aggression, and the Impact on Women.
This raw episode is probably the most honest conversation about this massive issue shared from a man’s perspective and understanding. This show isn’t about ‘bashing’ or accusing men. On the contrary, this episode sets out to break the silence on an issue that simply can’t be fully understood and solved without men as a crucial part of the conversation.
With one in three women facing violence and assault, Trudy lays out the sober truths that women face everyday in terms of safety, SA, DV, aggression and harassment; the constant negotiations women and girls make to navigate the opposite gender both online and offline.
Guests Podcaster Jon Mallia, Producer and Presenter Frank Zammit and Editor in Chief Herman Grech join Trudy at the table to dive into the multilayered and complex subject, and unravel not only what motivates the minority of men who commit violence, assault and abuse, but why most men find it hard to call out this behaviour. Frank stuns the table as he shares the brutal honesty that men find it easier to support a campaign such as Animal Cruelty than speak out against SA or DV. Jon shares his fears for his daughter and her safety, and Herman unravels the role social media plays in fuelling rage against one another.
The guests delve into what makes men men, the shifting climate, the sliding scale of implication, healthy masculinity and rise of toxic men, everyday objectification, the role of heroes and the heartbreaking and tragic dynamic of young men today.
Whilst this show isn’t an easy listen, it is an absolute game changer in opening the conversation to include both men and women, with the goal to start to understand how we can tackle the issue of identity, value, violence, abuse and aggression from the very roots.
This is a show for women AND men, to feel seen, understood, and to be able to understand this global endemic issue from the other side of gender fence, from a different point of view.
