Today we’re going to talk about the a shift in both the Democratic and Republican Parties with Dr. Jack Pitney -- he’s the Roy P. Crocker Professor of Politics at Claremont McKenna College.
It seems the parties have moved father and farther from the center. When I started covering politics in the late 1980's the republicans were the party of family values, the moral majority, the party of evangelicals… the Democrats were for the working class, those struggling to make it, the party that fought for minorities. Each party also had a legitimate moderate wing that often came together to cross the aisle to get things done.
Now it seems like in many ways that’s flipped.
