Has the UK become ungovernable? was just one of many questions in the headlines this week, after Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation. Even though it may no longer be a major news story for the rest of the world, it’s relentless in the UK, including helicopter footage of Andy Burnham (future PM?) arriving in London by train to be sworn in as an MP. The other side of this story – apart from the 10-year anniversary of Brexit – is we’ve seen coverage both praising OR condemning Starmer, so for those of us outside the UK, it might be hard to know which is which. There really is no centre in the discussion at all - a sign of the times.
A lot of other big news moments happening this week, from the US/Iran deal to the reflecting pool in Washington DC “attacked by vandals,” and of course, we await to hear the number of deaths from the double earthquakes that hit Venezuela, while Japan and California experienced earthquakes too. Heat is top of the agenda in Europe, as records are smashed across the continent, and the conversation is: should we get air conditioners? One thing is clear, Europe is not ready for extreme heat, while the scientists continue to scream about the accelerating impacts of climate change. This is all happening during Climate Week in the UK, which is experiencing cancellations due to extreme heat – ironic.
There’s a lot more news to talk about, and to help us this week we have a returning guest, Jessica Figueras. Always passionate about politics, who’s going to help us understand what’s changed in the UK, and how she views the entire political debate going on in the UK right now. Is the country ungovernable? Is Brexit to blame for where it is? Will Nigel Farrage really be the next Prime Minister? Jess’s professional focus is around cybersecurity, governance, data and innovation, which we might get to as well, but this week, it’s going to be about British politics, and we can’t wait to dig in and understand.
Don’t miss out as we get under the covers of UK politics and world news. We’ll be going live Friday, 26th June 2026, kicking off at 8am UK, 9am EU, 11am UAE, 12.30pm IN, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we’d love your support.
The Sh*t Show is a Livestream happening every Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko, Richard Busellato and Joe Augustin, as well as special guests, discuss the world’s most pressing issues across all angles of the polycrisis, working to make sense of the extremely challenging and complex times we are all going through, plus what we can do about it. Help us move the needle so we can change the name of the show to something more genteel when (or if) it is no longer a sh*t show.
