New apprentices Finnian and Clara-Belle are tasked with lubricating the massive, critical weather vane gears atop the Silver Creek Watch Tower. They discover the standard lubricant has evaporated, leaving behind a crystalline, powdery residue consistent with material drain, linking their current task to the historical Great Silence mentioned in town lore. Finnian, the meticulous record-keeper, relies on schematics which fail to account for the resonance effect. Clara-Belle, more practical, seeks a material solution and discovers a tarnished, miniature brass signal horn etched with the symbol of a jingle bell, suggesting a connection to the town's lost silver artifacts. Realizing the horn is inert due to material absorption, Clara-Belle resolves to find a pure resonant component, perhaps linked to the Silver Creek Chime, to activate the horn and force the weather vane gears to move before the lighting ceremony, fearing widespread structural failure if they fail.
