Apprentices Chip and Sprout are tasked with deploying low-density sonic lures into the resonance conduit to try and reactivate the deeply silenced acoustic regulators. They are dealing with a level of threat beyond mere density drain or resonance void exposure, as the silence below seems to be actively learning and countering their countermeasures. When they deploy the first lure, it is immediately rejected by the subterranean force. Upon retrieval, the lure has suffered immediate and total spectral density erasure, turning the crystallized laughter within gray. Chip realizes the antagonist is adapting to the very essence of the joy they are attempting to use as a shock treatment, escalating the threat to the fundamental concepts of the town's magic.
