The Silent Chime and the Leaning Castle

Silas and Poppy, apprentices in the Community Kitchen, face a structural crisis as their large gingerbread display, the Sugarplum Castle, begins to lean dramatically despite perfect measurements. They quickly realize the leaning is tied to the ambient resonance drain affecting the town, evidenced by a cold, silent silver bell they are using as a paperweight. Poppy remembers the warm brass tuning fork found earlier near the clock shed and uses it to strike the cold silver bell. This produces a single, pure chime which momentarily stabilizes the gingerbread structure. However, the stabilization is fleeting, as the crimson ribbon on the castle immediately begins to fade to gray, indicating the resonance drain continues. Realizing the need for a sustained thermal buffer, Poppy decides they must locate the heat-retaining clock weight felt, the same material others in town are searching for, to protect the display before the next structural failure occurs, forcing them toward the subterranean infrastructure.
