Another great listen!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
It started out negative and with some dire circumstances, but it ended well and I consider it another great listen from Julie Klassen with great narration by Elizabeth Jasicki.
Another "reader" had posted a negative review stating this book was not a Christian book and talked of rape and other horrendous things. I only found brief discussion of a scoundrel taking advantage of a woman, but not any gory details and it was handled very delicately and tactfully, just enough to explain the story. There are many Christian references and some characters do make commitments to God and have transformed lives.
I will listen to more books written by Julie Klassen and narrated by Elizabeth Jasicki.
Left wanting more like this
I originally downloaded this because of the reference to Victoria Holt novels which I loved to read growing up. This was just like them. I loved every minute of it and then downloaded the other two books.
Mixed feelings about this one...
I've listened to worse and overall I liked it ok... It didn't irritate me and the story was not the same old thing. But there was something rather disappointing about it.
There was plenty of intrigue, but in the end, the plot twist was (without giving it away) that the hinted at extraordinary and romantic was not reality, but the very ordinary was. The end was all so very anti-climatic, even though technically the heroes get the expected HEA.
The narrator had a lovely voice and the story was very gently, s-l-o-w-l-y and carefully read... which added to the lack of excitement. I found my attention frequently wandering.
Like I said, it was not bad. I liked it. I just didn't love it.
fluffy
I like light stories but this one was a bit light on the believable side. It was just quite silly and unbelievable. Listened to the entire thing anyways, so if you like lite brainless entertainment, this is for you.
Another wonderful book!
Another wonderful book by Julie Klassen, beautifully narrated by Elizabeth Jasicki. Of the handful of novels I've listened to so far, this one kept me in the greatest suspense. Early on I thought I'd figured things out and that, momentarily, decreased some of the pleasure of listening.
That quickly turned around time and time again, until not until the final pages of the book was all revealed! The Silent Governess was not, however, only a suspenseful read, however; it was also filled with tenderness toward many of the characters (and sometimes fear), romance, sadness, love, and forgiveness.
Klassen's books never fail to uplift me and are a needed break at times from today's disturbing times. Many thanks to Ms. Klassen and her narrator for this gift.
