It is frequently claimed that we fear what we don’t understand. While not true for everything, this certainly rings true for many things. We fear those with different beliefs and traditions, we fear math tests beyond our skill set, and we fear things that may or may not ever happen. Problems arise and fear abounds when we find ourselves (or place ourselves) in groups exactly like us. Suddenly, when one person claims the sky is falling, we all believe it without challenging the claim or even looking up at the sky. In addressing fear, let’s start by looking up.
