This one hurt. It hurt because I was confronted with the reality of celebrity and what we hold sacred. Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in retaliation to a joke aimed at Mr. Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
It was a joke insensitive to Mrs. Smith's baldness which occurred as a result of her incurable diagnosis of alopecia. In the hours since, we've all been trying to navigate the appropriateness of what happened and where we go from here.
In all of this I noticed a troubling trend that we can't ignore any longer. It's not on Will, Jada, nor Chris... It's on me...
