The legend and icon Wes Craven wasn’t just a man who built up one horror universe and ran off, he built multiple. Two of his most iconic horror franchises are Scream and Nightmare on Elm Street. A Stephen King classic is retold once more on the big screen, and it’s none other than ‘Salem’s Lot. It seems like in today’s day and age, vampires are coming back just not the way we thought they would. What was more of a quirky take on Dracula before in the 2000s is now no more. Most movie adaptations have taken on the more traditional, Dracula-inspired stories with little to no variation of the story. Nonetheless, ‘Salem’s Lot finds a way to make the story its own and the slasher duo couldn’t be happier!

Two young, devout missionaries are doing their best to convert as many as they can to their religion and are struggling to do so in today’s world. The missionaries are two young women who are traveling through town, stopping at any home who expressed interest in Mormonism and people they pass through the streets. After a day of struggling, the two girls come across an older gentleman who is willing to talk to them about their faith and religion; but the only thing is, these two Sisters don’t know just how intrigued this man really is. 

What starts off as a visit to potentially convert a man to Mormonism turns in to a deadly cat-and-mouse chase that leads the women further down a rather diabolical homeowners trap. The two are tested throughout their visit on their faith and the idea of religion overall. 

Marva and MJ talk about this movie and the hype surrounding it. The only thing is, did it live up to the hype everyone was claiming it had, or was it just because the film was produced by A24? Tune into this week’s episode or not!

Last year was a year for horror movies to say the least. At one point in the year, it seemed like the dominating genre in theaters was horror and nothing more. We also saw streaming services release their own films that would not come out to the big screen that would catch everyone’s attention as well. In all honesty, it’s been nice to watch horror get the recognition it has for the last few years and last year was no exception.
