This week, songs about uncles, ranging from the sweeping psychedelia of Spirit, through the brooding hinterlands of Dirty Projectors and Blood Orange, past the peaks of Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention, the troughs of The Grateful Dead, The Hornbills, Bad Livers and Primus, stopping off for a bite to eat with Bill Munroe and Michael Chapman and then back into an extended metaphor which includes Brian Eno, Jerry Goldsmith and David Bowie, pausing - only briefly - to reflect upon the lack of any actual connection with uncles. Oh well, it's all relative - and you can choose your friends, but not your relatives.
