Spring 1964, if you were in Bryant Park, NYC, you may have seen her: Thin woman, wearing sandals, jeans and a t-shirt, carrying a raincoat; walking deliberately one direction as if she were running late, then turning and running the opposite, or maybe you'd see her sleeping on a bench for a few nights, or maybe you'd see her burying sticks in the ground by the walkway.
