December 2023 on a back road in Prosper, Maine. Luna's car slides off Route 9 near the old Proctor place and she walks up the hill to the only house with a light on—a farmhouse where a solitary old man named Ellis Proctor sits in a rocker, watching a snowman in his yard. The snowman is wrong. It has been there for two years, since his wife died. It doesn't melt.
