Hummus mit Hintergrund is back with another English episode.

Yemen is not only the state that is reported on every now and then because the war is still ongoing. In this episode Elham Manea (Twitter @ElhamManea) and Dominik talk about the Yemeni predecessor states and especially the interesting history of South Yemen, its socialist heritage and the gender relations within the first real socialist state in the MENA region.

Additionally, they address the Yemeni unification process and its implications for women’s rights and Elham Manea gives first-hand information from her ongoing research on the recent situation in Yemen. Last but not least, Elham and Dominik discuss the role of family law in the Arab nation-states.
