Some of us are trying to fight the flesh...with the flesh! If we try to live a righteous life by our own effort, we will fail. And then we'll fall into despair, or into legalism - and pride. The bottom line is that sanctification is not a do-it-yourself project. We need the Holy Spirit to raise us out of ourselves, and into freedom.
