On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger was about to embark on a historic flight. One of its missions was to bring the first U.S. private citizen into space. A school teacher named Christa McAuliffe was chosen over thousands of others and was given the opportunity of a lifetime, to go into orbit as a member of the Challenger crew. Unfortunately, 75 seconds after launch, it exploded, killing all seven astronauts aboard. This week Jon and Jay discuss this national tragedy, what caused it, and the resulting aftermath.
