People have many ideas about what the "spirit of Christmas" is. Scripture defines it for us in Luke 1 and 2, where we have a number of people who are exposed to the announcement of Christ being born and all respond in a similar way -- WORSHIP. Of many of them it is said that they were "filled with the Holy Spirit," which elicited this response of worship. In Mary's Magnificat in Luke 1, we see four elements of true worship that also define the Christmas spirit. 1) Worship originates internally within our hearts. 2) Worship is a fervent internal response to God's truth. 3) Worship is continuous, not intermittent. 4) Worship begins with a true heart of humility. As we celebrate Christmas, may we respond to the truth of what it is with a heart of true worship and Christmas spirit.
