In the sacred teachings of the Sacred Atlantean Brotherhood, we understand that Doubt and Despair are not just fleeting emotions; they are spiritual forces that can pull us away from our true purpose and tie us to the illusions of limitation and separation. Doubt is the seed of spiritual paralysis, and despair is its fruit — a state of mind that can lead to doom, or the destruction of one's divine potential.
Grandmaster WaXhira of the Sacred Atlantean Brotherhood teaches, “Doubt is the door through which fear enters; despair is the trap in which your spirit becomes bound. To live with doubt and despair is to live in bondage, disconnected from your higher self and the divine truth. These forces are the opposite of creation; they pull you inward, away from the light, leading to the doom of spiritual stagnation.”
The Destructive Power of Doubt
Doubt is often regarded as a natural part of life — the uncertainty that arises when we face the unknown. However, when we give in to doubt, we empower it to consume our energy. Doubt weakens our faith, blocks our ability to act decisively, and prevents us from trusting in the divine flow of life.
The Gospel of Thomas speaks to this in Saying 70: “If you bring forth what is within you, what you have will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” This profound teaching highlights that doubt often arises when we fail to trust in our own inner wisdom and divine potential. When we doubt ourselves, we neglect the power of our own consciousness and imagination, and we allow fear and limitation to rule our lives.
Doubt paralyzes action, stifles creativity, and clouds our judgment. When you doubt, you become a spectator in your own life, rather than an active creator. You stop moving forward, stuck in an endless loop of questioning rather than seeking solutions, progress, or truth.
The Danger of Despair
Despair is the inevitable consequence of prolonged doubt. While doubt may begin as a simple thought or hesitation, if left unchecked, it transforms into a deep emotional state — despair. This state of hopelessness is a form of spiritual death. When we fall into despair, we begin to believe that there is no solution, no path forward, and no light at the end of the tunnel. Despair disconnects us from the divine and keeps us in a state of spiritual darkness.
In the Torah, we find wisdom that speaks to this: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). This teaching reveals that despair is not the divine plan for us. God has a future and hope for every individual, a future filled with light, growth, and opportunity. Despair is a lie — it tells us that there is no way out, but in truth, the divine wisdom within us always provides a way.
When we live in despair, we stop seeing the possibilities of life. We close off to new opportunities and prevent ourselves from growing. Despair is the spiritual death of vision, and without a vision, the soul withers.
Doom: The Final Consequence
The true danger of doubt and despair is that they eventually lead to doom — the destruction of our spiritual path. Doom in this sense does not mean external catastrophe; rather, it refers to the collapse of our divine potential. When we allow doubt and despair to govern our minds, we abandon our spiritual mission and separate ourselves from the divine flow. This separation leads to a life devoid of purpose, clarity, and fulfillment.
