We explore filmmaking as a tool to heal and inspire social change with our guest - BAFTA award winning director Garry Fraser. Growing up in Muirhouse, Garry was taken into care at 10 and found his way through 36 care homes, addiction to opiates and prescription meds, a life dealing and being a courier for organised crime. When his son was born, he took control of his life and began filmmaking. The same creativity that kept him alive and out of jail was now winning him MTV awards and a BAFTA. We talk to Garry about his journey, his work on films like Trainspotting 2 and his own series of TV and films, all made in Muirhouse with a mixture of actors and locals.
