The People Work Podcast: Creating workplaces with fewer people problems and better bottom lines episodes

  • Judge the Work. Protect the Person.

What is the main principle of The Worth Work System? It is Judge the Work and Protect the Person. In this Episode, Shane Jacob talks about what each part means and how they work together.

Judging the work never ends, because nobody does the job perfect. Protecting the person means we respect human beings, no matter what they do. Shane explains the Separation Skill, why standards stay up, why consequences stay, and what to do when you are disrespectful. No matter what you do or don't do, we like you anyway.

In this Episode you will Discover:

    • The three cinnamon rolls, and what they say about being a person on this earth
    • Why protecting someone’s worth doesn’t mean protecting them from consequences
    • The hidden cost of making a person’s behavior a judgment of who they are

  • Give More Than You Take

Shane Jacob just got back from the IFA trade show in Layton, Utah, where about 200 vendors filled aisle after aisle. He came away with two observations that seemed completely different and turned out to be the same lesson.

Three vendors suggested he bypass the association that paid for the whole event and buy direct, so they could both make a little more money. And all over the show floor, people were tired, talking about themselves instead of the customer, and just trying to get through the day.

Neither one of those choices changes your value. Your value is already 100% and nothing you do or don't do can change it. But both of them change what your brain believes about your value, and what you believe about yourself has an enormous impact on the results you create.

In this episode Shane talks about giving more than you take. Not because it changes your value, but because of what choosing to live that way can teach you to believe about yourself.

In this episode you will discover:

    · When you violate your own values, your brain knows it, and the small gain starts looking pathetic next to what you're teaching yourself

    · Your actions don't determine your worth, but they do influence what you believe about your worth

    · Why "What's in it for me?" may be the wrong question

  • Change Brings Out the Worst in People

Change is part of business. AI is changing businesses. Companies grow. Markets change. People change. Leadership changes. Reorganizations happen. Companies merge and get acquired.

    You can't eliminate change.

But change can bring out the worst in people.

In this episode, Shane Jacob explains what happens when workplace change creates uncertainty, resistance, distraction, lost productivity, and turnover. He also looks at what happens to leaders under the pressure of keeping the company performing while their people are questioning what is happening and whether they can trust leadership.

The answer isn't trying to make change disappear.

The answer is building trust before change arrives.

Shane explains why the relationship that exists before the change matters so much, why telling people to "trust us" isn't enough, and what it means to Judge the Work. Protect the Person.

Through The Worth Work System, leaders can make the difficult decisions they have to make while continuing to treat people with respect and hold them in high regard.

When trust already exists, change is easier on employees, easier on leaders, and better for the company.

    Change is coming.

The question is: What level of trust will exist between you and your people when it does?

  • How to Save Over 4 Hours a Week

How The Worth Work System Saves Hours of Lost Time Every Week

Workplace conflict costs more time than most leaders realize 34 minutes per act of incivility, up to six days per disciplinary case. Shane Jacob breaks down a real example from his own company, where a written warning could have cost days of lost productivity but instead cost about two hours, because the foundation of trust was already in place. He explains why written warnings feel so personal, what it takes to build a high-trust relationship, and why The Worth Work System's biggest benefit isn't culture it's time.

In this episode, Shane Jacob takes a hard look at how much time and money people problems can cost a company.

    What you will Discover:

    • How fear increases the cost of time and why that quickly becomes a cost in dollars
    • How defensiveness turns one performance problem into a productivity problem for an entire team
    • How to get time back so you can get work done

  • Where I'm Coming From

In this episode, Shane gets personal.

He explains how three major parts of his experience shaped what he teaches today. He starts with prison, the decisions that got him there, poor self-image, and the cycle of thoughts, feelings, and behavior that followed.

Then he talks about more than 30 years with horses. Training them. Shoeing them. Showing them. Learning from them.

This is not theory disconnected from real life.

It is the context behind Shane's work on beliefs, behavior, leadership, trust, relationships, and workplace culture.

  • What Employers Are Really Looking For in People

In this episode Shane shares what Leaders Should Look For When Hiring. If ten people meet the basic requirements and you have one job, what makes the difference?

In this Episode you will Discover:

    • The three things Shane looks for when he hires someone
    • Why basic job requirements are only the starting point

Shane also shares a real example from Jacob Livestock involving a lost bale of hay and shows how a leader's response can determine whether an employee learns to hide problems or becomes willing to bring them forward.

If you're hiring people, entering the workforce, or trying to become someone employers can trust, this episode will give you a different way to think about what actually matters.

  • What To Do With Your Time

What if you could get to the end of your day and feel good about how you spent your time?

Not because you got everything done. Because you did what was most important to you.

You did what you said you were going to do. You lived according to your priorities. You became a person you can count on.

Shane Jacob talks about what happens when you manage yourself and your time around what actually matters to you. The result is bigger than productivity. You begin to trust yourself more, feel better about yourself, and have less regret, stress, and overwhelm.

What happens when the way you spend your time starts matching the way you actually want to live?

That's what this episode is about.

  • The Most Important Days in an Employee's Career

Most leaders believe onboarding is about teaching someone how to do the job.

    It's much more than that.

Every new employee walks into your organization asking one question:

"Am I going to make it here?"

The way leaders answer that question determines how quickly people learn, how much they contribute, and whether they stay.

In this episode, workplace culture speaker and trainer Shane Jacob explains why the first days of employment shape trust, accountability, and long-term performance.

    You'll learn:

    • Why onboarding is about more than policies and procedures

    • How uncertainty affects every new employee

    • How to reduce turnover before it starts

If you lead people, this episode will change the way you think about onboarding.
