For the sophisticated haunt afficianado, The Stanley Hotel, also known as the hotel from Stephen King’s The Shining, features a variety of rooms with high paranormal activity including the famous Stephen King Suite 217, the Ghost Hunters' favorite room 401, as well as 407, and 428. These are among our most-requested, and most haunted, rooms. So availability is limited.
Relax in The Stanley’s most famous room, The Stephen King Suite. This suite gained notoriety after famed horror writer, Stephen King, spent the night in 1974. His experience at The Stanley inspired him to write his novel, ‘The Shining.’ The Stephen King suite features all new furnishings, King-size bed, armoire, writing desk, pull-out queen sleeper sofa and a double bathroom vanity.
In addition to overnight stays, The Stanley offers tours based on your level of interest - The Historic Tour, The Shining Tour, and The Spirited Night Tour. The historic tour is just that - the history of The Stanley.
The Shining Tour includes a visit to The Shining Suite, a beautifully restored 1909 Caretaker's Cottage. You’ll get the inside scoop on Colorado's most famous dog, you can snap a photo of the re-created bathroom, and catch a glimpse of one of the Axes from the filming of The Shining.
Immerse yourself in the spirited story of the historic Stanley Hotel on the Spirited Night Tour! This hour-long walking tour will introduce you to Mr. F.O. Stanley, his wife Flora, Stephen King, and other noteworthy visitors of the last century. Each tour offers you opportunities to explore, ask questions, and perhaps leave with a few stories of your own.
