Condemnation vs. Conviction
Conviction: The Holy Spirit gives evidence, witness, that I have fallen short of God’s standard, desires, ways for me. It is corrective in nature. Born out of love! (Hebrews 12:6)
Condemnation: It is accusatory, demeaning, guilt-ridden, shame-inducing, punitive in nature. (Revelation 12:10 - devil is an accuser)
“According to”: Directed by; motivated by; under the influence of
The “flesh”: Old patterns of thinking, speaking, behaving; self-focused desires and agendas;
The body is not evil, but contains sin. (Romans 7, 8; 12:1, 2)
Why is this possible? (Romans 5 – 8)
Romans 5:1 – Justified: Our legal status in Christ. Justification yields Peace with God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Romans 5:2 – The glory of God: We exist to Receive and Reflect His Glory. The evidence, manifestation of His Presence! We are to be CARRIERS of His Presence!
Romans 5:2 – We stand in GRACE; God’s FAVOR
Romans 5:3-5 – The Development of Hope!
Romans 5:6-11 – Former enemies, now reconciled; sharers of His Life!
The “Representative Head” Principle: (Romans 5:12-19)
One’s status is Legally determined by Another’s Actions
