October 2023, just past midnight. Luna drives an hour north of Millbrook to the old well behind Saint Jude's Chapel, where a former altar boy named Tommy Cobb has been leaving messages on the parish answering machine. He says the stole Father Callahan gave him at his First Confession won't stop bleeding. Luna goes to meet him. She finds him sitting on the stone lip of the well, holding a strip of violet silk that drips something dark and warm.
