Hey Storm Riders, it’s the Storm Writer!A year ago I wrote a google slide show. I know that sound’s like a funny thing to write, but it’s true. In some ways I’d rather write a slide show than a book. It’s easier and less threatening. I digress. I wrote a slide show about my personalized approach to “behavior management” aka “dealing with kids”. People who’ve observed me have noticed I have a bit of magic with children. There’s irony in that because I’ve shared on here about how I’m a recovering addict and also how I’ve suffered major defamation of character for decades, by unknown knowns who confused my personal mental health battles (that’s what addiction is) with any sort of risk to my students and community. The irony in all this is not lost on me.

Yet, I share because as someone once said, if they’ve got data on me, then I’ve got data on me too. I want to share what’s in me— not literally or physically. Not my guts.

I want to share what I know about children and I want you to hear me out and try it out. It made me effective as a leader in the classroom and I still use this magic to draw out the happiness in the little loved ones in my life. Depression isn’t something you overcome. It’s something you shake off. It’s true for kids and true for grown ups too.

In this episode I talk about updates on my teaching experience, the types of exploits I've observed and tracked against my devices and operating systems, and I reflect on human nature and recall teaching one of the first students who tried to hack me, through sending files and voice messages back and forth. I share my insights and recommendations for how things can improve and I remind us that we all have a tell, and we all communicate what we're doing, whether we like it or not.

Unfortunately, our lay psychology is full of myth. Nowadays, when it comes understanding the mind, we have more superstitions than the pagans and animists in ancient times. In my 40’s, one of my deepest concerns is the fear that instead of solving the problems of human psychology, we’re just adding to the confusion with trending false beliefs. The irony is that we have more information at our fingertips than we’ve ever had before, and yet, authentic information from primary sources is harder and harder to find.

For this reason I recorded this episode. I spoke in great detail about sex addiction, and chemical mechanics of the sex addict’s mind. I’m a primary source— I’ve spent a lot of time and brain power analyzing this issue over the course of my life on this planet, and in addition, I’m a witness. I’m a witness to my own actions and mistakes, and to the lives and stories of hundreds of sex addicts. I’ve sat in thousands of sex addiction meetings and I’ve heard tens of thousands of stories from people with the same affliction.

What bothers me most is when I come upon psychologists who don’t believe sex addiction is real or that porn can be addictive. The sad truth is that I’ve been sat in the office chairs of therapists who claimed to know and be able to treat sex addiction, but still knew significantly less about it and its recovery than myself. This is because I, as recovering addict, lived and breathed this stuff for more than 15 years, even as I went through the hardest years in my life. I dare say that the program got me through it.

As you know, I’m an visual artist, but I’m much more than that. I have things to say about topics which don’t quite fit with my being as an artist or a vessel of inspiration. I possess an analytical, didactic side, that needs to express itself as well. So in this episode I tried to fit everything I know about sex addiction, and what motivates it. In this podcast episode, I’ll explore the concept of being watched, and intentionally sabotaged by outsiders, and I’d also like to explore how those efforts to hamper one person, can negatively impact the people around them and negatively impact the saboteur.

In one of my most recent posts, I wrote about The teacher and the Comedian. I wrote about some things that happened in my 20s and 30s, and I wrote about some figures that played a sort of a nefarious role in my life at that time. I spoke a little bit about a character called The Comedian from Alan Moore’s The Watchmen.

I was writing about the fact that I dealt with outside forces sabotaging me while I was trying to do my best work. Those outside forces spread rumors around me, saying that I was up to no good, and that I was manipulating and taking advantage of people when in fact I was serving the public genuinely. The rumors were intended to hamper me, or slow me down, or stop me from doing the work under the guise of “trying to protect the public from me”.

This is an important story about perspectives on what’s right and what’s necessary. It’s also a sort of omen, foreshadowing lots of the crap I have to deal with these days. I’m just grateful to have what I hope are interesting stories.
