The Story Behind Women Who WP with Co-founder Jen Miller - BobWP Neighborhood Podcast

Listen Later

If you are involved with the WordPress community, you already know that there are some powerful women in the world of developers. And for some of them who are looking to get more involved with the community, or maybe thinking of speaking at a WordCamp, it can be easier said than done. In fact, anyone who has good knowledge to share may not feel comfortable stepping out of their introverted developer self and moving deeper into the community, let alone standing in front of a crowd and speaking.
Well, Jen Miller and her co-founders, Bridget Willard and Elizabeth Shilling have done some amazing things with their organization, Women Who WP. In fact, it has become a worldwide effort and is growing daily.
In this podcast, we opened with the idea behind Women Who WP and how it came to be. Then we discussed the need for more women in technology, how to give them deserved recognition, and what Jen sees as some of the solutions.
I also asked about the expectations people have for women who are leaders and whether working in an agency or as a single freelancer conveys that perception of leadership.
Lastly, we looked at the WordPress space and talked about whether women are being accepted more as developers compared to in other tech industries or software communities.
