Formed in 1987 in Long Island, New York City, a Rap music trio known as De La Soul created a new and unique approach to the genre. During the late 1980's, Hip-Hop's subject matter consisted mainly of bragging or stories of urban decay, but the trio of Posdnuos, Maceo & Trugoy brought a sly sense of humour and psychedelic imagery to the then exploding rap music scene. They went on to loose their hippy image but continued to make great music. In this Masterclass episode, presenter Darren Shredder dives into and talks about their back catalogue.
