She was found three weeks later, bound and injured, alleging two Hispanic women kidnapped her. After extensive investigation, authorities discovered she had been staying with an ex-boyfriend and inflicted the injuries on herself. in 2022, Papini plead guilty to making false statements and mail fraud, admitting the kidnapping was a hoax.
