Publisher's Summary:
Armed with M1 rifles, bayonets, and a few hand grenades, young soldiers from different units, operating without command, come together as The Stragglers. Take a journey into the trenches in this fascinating true story of a group of misplaced soldiers fighting courageously as other American troops withdrew from the city of Chinju, South Korea. Charles C. Smith recalls the story of his 17-year-old self, the lone survivor from a battle that took place more than 50 years ago. A rag-tag group of soldiers solidifies as The Stragglers. As lives are lost, honor and courage are upheld.
Members Reviews:
Important Read
I found this a good record of the Korean police action (war) but it was a dry and convoluted way to tell the story.
Poorly written and poorly read
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Rush Limbaugh fan
Would you recommend The Stragglers to your friends? Why or why not?
no. Author did not do enough research, just pleaded with his audience to do his research for him. Far too many details were left out.
What didnt you like about Sean Kilgores performance?
He restarts sentences and mispronounces words.
What character would you cut from The Stragglers?
not relevant.
Any additional comments?
His praise for right wing conservatives was irrelevant to the story being told and distracted from it. His current political beliefs do a disservice to his comrades who died in battle in Korea - it is their story which should be told, not today's politics left or right.
A Real Disapointment!
I have never written a poor review of any of my most enjoyable 80Gbt"s of Audible.com audio books. This poor production deserves at least some comment. The narriation is very poor with many easily correctable voice repeats. Worse, it is about one minor battle that no one in the Army knows about. The author may have been to Korea but what he writes has no intrinsict value, historicial or otherwise. My complete irritation was worsened by an unnecessary commerial for Rush Limbach as our Country"s most honest & best reporter of trueth. Other right wingers also mentioned, much to my irritation. Not a good example of how to harm the audio book medium. A very sad day was whaen it was released. I doubt anything in it is true. Very sad day when I purchased it, worse when I listened. Depresses me. John
