Fist Bumps and High Fives Good Human!
Oddly enough a sure sign our civilization is returning back to (a) normal is the increased spam.
While it's been a while since I've inherited a fortune from a Nigerian prince who happens to be an acquaintance—in this economy, a few unearned millions would be fantastic—I'm back to disappointing women in bed with my tiny wang. Also, an email with a Hotmail address telling me the Bank of America account I do not have has been compromised. Spam has about as much credibility as a time traveller but its consistent hustle is oddly comforting in turbulent moments. This pandemic has taught us that civilization is far more resilient than people realize; apparently so is our spam.
So! And Yo! I’ve attached another My Pal Sammy solo podcast outing where I share a story about The Sci-fi Senior and reading virus-apocalypse literature...during a pandemic. As for reading, gather up your loose tea while ye may because here are 3 Morning Tea Links: an excellent way to start your morning.

3 Morning Tea Links
On June 13 NBA journalists reported: "The NBA is seeking to fund a Yale School of Public Health study that will support validation of saliva-based coronavirus test and could further availability of cost-effective/noninvasive/rapid test to the general population." Which is great. MLB participated in a massive coronavirus antibody study in April. The size of these leagues, the conditioning of the players, and coaches mean this would be a fantastic way to unleash some science: since March humanity is like down 2-1 to coronavirus. Science was one of the most obvious reasons why the NBA should restart: refine testing, contribute to science, and facilitate a vaccine. The best way to combat needless fear is with grounded science. Well, the results are in...and it’s a Whole New Game!

“It is a common trope among alt-right folks that the left can’t meme — and yet there’s Gritty, standing as a one-monster proof to the contrary.” So ummm Gritty is the Philadelphia Flyers mascot. How…did he get political? Like what is happening with our culture?
Gritty’s evolution from googly-eyed hockey mascot to meme to leftist avatar, explained

I'm captivated by the recent push led by the NBA players, owners, and coaches to convert empty sports arenas into large scale voting booths for November. (There's obviously more space than a high school gym for social distancing and of course, arenas are built with our tax dollars and tax incentives.) This is being billed as an inspirational opportunity and certainly, Biden being more likable than Hillary makes this feasible. (I dunno that this could have worked in 2016.) Thing is though it's the culmination of the sportification of American politics...to actually vote in a sports arena now means election nights...especially like in November are Super Bowls. So bust your Giant Foam #1 Finger and go team!!

“If you want joy, lower the bar…it's all around us.” So says Rob Bell in his latest...sermon? Lecture? “Ted Talk?” I dunno what these are just that they are beneficial. The coolest people have an unusual way of looking at our world. An Introduction To Joy is a great example.
Rob’s latest book Everything Is Spiritual: Who We Are and What We're Doing Here comes out on September 15th. Shall we get into books?

New Book Alert!
I’m currently reading a non-fiction book on Quantum Physics. This is the ceiling of my intelligence. I'm not sure I understand half of what I am reading but it is well written.
Something Deeply Hidden: Quantum Worlds and the Emergence of Spacetime by Sean M. Carroll
In this book, Carroll examines the reasons why people misunderstand quantum mechanics and advocates a version of the many-worlds interpretation...what we term in science fiction movies and books as a parallel universe. Like it’s one thing if you a parallel universe shows up in a sci-fi book...I’m up for those. But...are they...real?!You are allowed to believe in aliens with little ridicule because that belief is rooted in science...space and all that. If you say you believe in ghosts you get mocked because that’s more superstition. Yet...what about a parallel universe...if those are real what do you think your alternatives are doing right now?
Sean Carroll is a theoretical physicist specializing in quantum mechanics, gravity, and cosmology; dude’s got a PhD in astronomy from Harvard University. So the science is sound if confusing. It’s a lot like watching a deeply technical Star Trek episode: I don’t fully understand what the actors just said (probably neither did they but it sounds bad; I can tell because as soon as they explained the problem there was a commercial break. That’s not good.) but it’s highly entertaining and I think I am learning. Something.
He tweeted out the following snippet from Chapter 2 of Something Deeply Hidden:
See what I mean? I’m smart but not that smart. After his Quantum Physics book is done I want to tackle Synchronicity!
~~~
Synchronicity: The Epic Quest to Understand the Quantum Nature of Cause and Effect by Paul Halpern
Ready for this? “And then quantum mechanics happened, introducing spooky connections that seemed to circumvent the law of cause and effect. Inspired by the new physics, psychologist Carl Jung and physicist Wolfgang Pauli explored a concept called synchronicity, a weird phenomenon they thought could link events without causes. Synchronicity tells that sprawling tale of insight and creativity, and asks where these ideas -- some plain crazy, and others crazy powerful -- are taking the human story next.” Wow...ok then!
Amazon released this trailer for this documentary on voting and voter suppression in America. Americans are addicted to "vote!!" as an effective solution but voting has no value if the candidates are lousy. When the system forces voters to choose between Trump or Hillary it's clearly not good; it's clearly not working.
You're really honestly telling me those are the 2 best choices to represent 300 million people?!
The way the candidates are selected (in America and in Canada); the way we present them...the media all of that needs to be overhauled. In everything else we can research reviews...from cities, we're flying to; to washers and dryers...to a book...there are reviews and opinions and recommendations and suggestions so people can avoid mistakes or bad choices. We don't really do that properly with political candidates. So yeah voter suppression is a major issue and yes it is racist but if the choices suck that's not good either. We’re all hungry for change but the menu sucks.
So I hope this documentary addresses some/all of that. All In: The Fight For Democracy is on Amazon Prime on September 18. I’m All In! I'll make some tea and chill with this.
