Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, recently stated that local health authorities have the power to issue orders that control communicable diseases, but they do not have the power to close schools, public or private. It’s up to the parents and school officials to decide. The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District and the city attorney say Paxton’s “opinion” does not carry any legal weight.
