The Bible mentions strongholds in the Old and New Testaments. Today's message focuses on the image of the stronghold that David fled to when he was in danger.  A jealous king wanted to kill him.  Four years David was on the run to save his life, hiding out in wilderness caves and mountainous cliffs. Yet during this time he learned that the cliffs did not save him but God did.  David put these life lessons into a beautiful imagery in many Psalms such as, Psalm 18: 1.  "The Lord is my rock (a lofty, craggy rock) and my fortress (castle), and my deliverer (escape), my God, my strength (cliff) in whom I will trust, my buckler (shield, protector) and the horn of my salvation and my high tower (lofty inaccessible cliff). The Lord is your stronghold!
