Continuing our sermon series from Genesis titled, “Family Matters,” today’s reading is the familiar story of Jacob’s wrestling. His life to this point has been filled with strife, and when he goes to sleep this particular night, we can recall times when we, too, have been awake at night with so many issues running through our minds. He prays before trying to sleep. Knowing Jacob’s faults, God still chooses Jacob as the ancestor of Israel. Even if it upsets us that God would choose such a bad person, this story shows God’s acceptance of those who wrestle, and our wrestling with this story and with issues in our own time will not separate us from God.
