In 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, the Apostle Paul addresses one of the causes of division within the Corinthian church: the reliance on man's wisdom in pride. For many, both in the church and outside of it, the message of the gospel is not enough to secure their salvation. They have to add to or change it to adapt to the culture or to their own tradition. Paul says very plainly in this passage that the simple message of the cross that man considers to be foolishness is the ONLY source of truth and power that can bring one to Christ in salvation. God WILL destroy all the wisdom of man as the power of the cross is manifest in those who believe.
