Publisher's Summary:
Best-selling author Holly Chamberlin welcomes listeners to the sunny beaches and unspoiled beauty of Maine in this poignant, thoughtful new novel of a mother and daughter in the midst of profound change.
When Louise Bessire was living in Boston, she dreamed of another way of life, far from the phony smiles and small-talk of corporate dinners. Now she's got what she wanted - though not exactly in the way she hoped. Blindsided by her husband's affair, Louise has used her divorce settlement to buy Blueberry Bay, a picturesque bed and breakfast in Ogunquit. And with a celebrity wedding taking place on the premises this summer, business is looking up.
While Louise deals with paparazzi and wedding planners, her 16-year-old daughter, Isobel, is falling hard for local boy Jeff Otten. Being singled out by Jeff - 19, handsome, and from a wealthy family - almost makes up for her father's increasing neglect. Yet even in the glow of golden beach days there are sudden, heart-wrenching revelations for both Louise and Isobel. It will be a summer that tests their strength and courage and proves that through every changing season, nothing is as steadfast as a mother's love.

Predictable story, poorly written. The characters spend all the book reflecting back on something. We're never in the moment of the action, it's all told in retrospect. There is so much exposition that for most of the book I felt like i was in the company of a type of person who can't stop talking about everything under the sun, the banal and the obvious strung together with everything else so that you just want to turn their speaker button off. Characters have conversations so that they can voice the writer's opinion on a topic. Every chapter hits you hard over the head with "BIG IDEA" of something or another. In other words, don't expect subtlety here. Everything is explained. Over and over. In great detail. If you had any doubt about how any of the characters felt then you didn't read the book because they explain themselves so much, that in case you missed it in one chapter, they do it again in the next. This author should learn about pacing, subtext, and scene.
Great Summer Read
This was certainly not the story I thought it was going to be. It turned out to be much more and had lots of social issues to think about as you read through it. It started out with a long-term marriage break up, Dad's new life and family, and a new summer adventure for everyone. It turned out to be life altering moments with that teaching moment thrown in for good measure. I think the main message was to communicate and not hide your feelings as it not only helps you but others that may be experiencing the same issues. Well done to the author for the sensitive and positive handling of these issues. I highly recommend it. It starts out a little slow, but I think it's worth wading through to the end.
Excellent book!
The Summer Everything Changed was a fast moving entertaining book. I loved the characters ....except for Jeff...& about half way through the book, I wanted to punch him! Isodol was such a sweet girl with her own sometimes quirky likes & dislikes. It is a good summer read.
Good book with good message
This was well written, it would be a great book for all women to read at any age. Especially young woman.
