The Sunrise Has Come

Listen Later

What do you find contentment in? Do you look to be satisfied or fulfilled in relationships, success, or financial security? We can create pressure on others trying to achieve these things in our own lives. Advent is a time of expectation. Christ doesn’t always meet our expectations as we may desire though. Zechariah and Elizabeth’s desire to have children would be fulfilled in John, but it wouldn’t be as they desired because John would be set apart for the Lord’s purpose. He would belong to God and Zechariah and Elizabeth would have to surrender and trust God that He would provide contentment beyond what they could see. They were challenged to let go of ambition and to surrender their expectations in order to receive what God had for them. We can’t encounter God at an arm’s length, or be bystanders. We must submit to the life God is calling us to. This becomes our witness and testimony of Christ to this world. What expectations do you have that prevent you from submitting to God’s plan for you? God keeps His promises so we can trust Him. Learn to find contentment in Christ alone. God is able to save and He has raised Christ up for us to save us because we are unable to save ourselves. Do you realize how often you need Christ to satisfy your needs, and to save you from your enemies? We have received mercy from God so that we might show mercy to others. In Christ, the wait is over. The Light of the world, the Dayspring from on high, has come.
