Bob Drach is a Libertarian candidate for NC State auditor, a staunch advocate for

auditing as a check against misuse, fraud and corruption, and the only candidate in the race

who is a part of the accounting profession. That the importance of integrity and transparency in government spending should be questioned in the first place seems strange. In most businesses, the role of an auditor is not to choose goals or drive decision-making, but to ensure that resources are allocated to their proper uses given the goals management had already chosen. However, public auditors are usually elected as term-representatives and must justify their position to voters. The political nature of the position means that the auditor’s ethos of impartiality is complicated by the need to appeal to voters and political insiders.
