The Swimmers is based on an inspiring true story of two Syrian sisters, the Mardini sisters who escaped war torn Syria to Germany to have a better life. The younger Yusra pursued and lived her dream of competing in Olympics in swiming. She represented Refugee contingent in Rio Olympics in 2016. The elder sister Sarah joined NGO to help fellow refugees. She has since been arrested under the charges of human trafficking and is awaiting trial.

The movie stars two wonderful actors and real life sisters Manal Issa and Nathalie Issa as the Mardini sisters.
