On the same date as the bloodiest day in American history, the Battle of Antietam, the largest home front disaster of the Civil War took place in Pittsburgh, PA at Allegheny Arsenal. Over 70 people lost their lives in the explosions at the arsenal, many of whom were young women who worked there. Rich Condon, who currently operates the social media site "Civil War Pittsburgh," joins me to discuss this terrible tragedy.
