From City Council members who we’re careful to put in office, to county and state level employees who we vote into office, black people are going to have to come together and rethink the why’s that we keep putting some people in office and back again

They want to continue to blame the communities and not deal with the economic stressors that cause it

Black people of all people should understand this, but when your job tells you what to say, you have to say what they tell you to

Don’t let these people tell you that the black couple who created the first land trust that protected property owners from theft meant for the model that’s used today to be compared to their model

It’s not the same model

Tanisha Manning told me that the community meeting on violence in 3rd Ward was not the right time for the discussion on property retention as a solution. That statement will force the community to understand how out of touch people are about their properties being stolen. Property loss is still seen as an individual failure on the part of the property owner and not a part of a broader system that is constantly being maintained by the system of oppression and generational wealth loss measures

This is the language you should put in the contract as a counter offer

Transparency is key. Don’t be in the dark. Get counsel about the language in the contract

You don’t know if that person owns that company. Don’t let them rush you. Slow down and check them out first

A will is a set of instructions. That’s it. An executor is a nominee with no power until an estate is probated and the courts grant power to execute the deceased’s wishes

If your help is truly about the community and not optics, then these are the things “ savior” groups should be doing. Most would rather blame the community for the problems and is why you don’t go to your own people and ask them to be better people and to stop creating these problems
