Just they way music went from 8-track tapes, to cassette tapes, to CD's, to MP3 to now steaming digitally.  Currency is also going in the same direction.  

Cattle used to be currency, then beads or shells, then gold and silver, then paper money (fiat currency), to credit/debit cards, to bank wires and now soon digital currencies.  

We are at the cusp of this transfer.
