James J. Hughes is a sociologist, bioethicist, and former Buddhist monk who serves as the Executive Director of the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technologies (IEET). He is one of the founding voices of democratic transhumanism and techno-progressivism, author of Citizen Cyborg: Why Democratic Societies Must Respond to the Redesigned Human of the Future, and a leading thinker on the intersection of radical technology, leftist politics, and human rights.
