Then, healing at long last, a pitch flame reduced to smoldering embers, and a reappearance on the field of battle. The promise of yet more payment to his patron, the denial of a relationship forged in a dying worldline. And then, finally, a call from an old friend, a night of shared stories, a commiseration over children, and a departure with eyes to many future meetings.
