He left the village to fight in the Teristaque Wars and never returned. She meets Sarge, a strange star species of the human race who seems to know the secret of the patch from her father's uniform. Kal has always known she is different from her fellow villagers, and finally she may be closer to finding out why.
Members Reviews:
An excellent adventure!
I think I enjoyed this book the most out of all Aaron's books I have read! There were very few grammatical errors in the book, and the story was fantastic!
I was sent an advanced copy of this and read it months ago.. It was a great read, but the finer details of the story have faded a little. I will try to recall
Depth of story:
I found this book placed the protagonist into a wide variety of situations, and with each one, I felt that I was interested in the story, and with each one, I could imagine myself in the scene.
Depth of Characters:
I felt that most of the characters were rich and well developed.
The Villain:
Very well developed. You hate him. The author also takes you through the villains back story, and it helps you understand his motivations slightly, and for a split second, you don't despise him so much. For just a SHORT TIME...
The back story on the villain was a very rich and well developed one that was a fun part of the book to read!
Originality of the story:
I don't want to give it away because there is a surprise in the book, but it is like all of Aaron's stories, very original
How tied together is the story?
I find with this particular book, it was clear that the story didn't just unfold on a day to day kind of situation, but that the entire story throughout the book was tied together, and that by the end of the book you more fully understand WHY things happened, not just that they did.
The way the entire story from front to back is tied together keeps you reading along, and makes you want to finish the book!
I really can't wait for the continuation of this story!
Chronicling a Dim Future
NOTE: The author graciously provided me with a copy of this book and asked me to write a review.
Aaron Frale is working on a massive YA science fiction project entitled "The Teristaque Chronicles," telling the story of a dystopian future universe by means of a series of standalone stories and novelettes. This book, appropriately labeled "Volume 1," is a collection of the first five stories that Frale has written which are set in this universe (all of which are available separately on Amazon as well). Although the five stories don't proceed in strictly chronological order (a couple of them are flashbacks about the earlier lives of two of the supporting characters in the book), the book does read better as a whole than the five stories do separately, and Frale has the makings of a fascinating story here, both as to the individual storyline and his overall universe.
The "Teristaques" in the book's title are human beings of the future, who have colonized dozens of planets and encountered numerous, often bizarre alien species.
