Considered frightening, horrifying, and repellent at the time, it would go on to become a cult hit on home video and is now regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time. Recently, it also had the honor of being added to the National Film Registry for preservation at the Library of Congress for its cultural, historic and aesthetic importance.
