The story opens with Madame Roselle, a proud and aloof woman (Agnes Moorehead), living in French Indochina with her husband, Henri (Bill Johnstone), and their Vietnamese servant, Ngo. The marriage is loveless, and Madame Roselle is bitter, cold, and emotionally detached.
