In his final novel, Sick Heart River, John Buchan predicted that with the outbreak of a second world war Richard Hannay and all his companions of old would be going back into action. In The Thirty-One Kings, the tale of their adventures is finally told.
June 1940. As German troops pour across France, the veteran soldier and adventurer Richard Hannay is called back into service. In Paris an agent, codenamed 'Roland', has disappeared and is assumed to be in the hands of the Nazis. Only he knows the secret of the 31 kings, one upon which the future of Europe depends. Hannay is dispatched to Paris to find Roland before the Germans overrun the city.
On a hazardous journey across the battlefields of France, Hannay is joined by old friends and new allies as he confronts a ruthless foe who will stop at nothing to destroy him.

Both wrote wonderful books and I have enjoyed each and everyone that ...
I am a huge fan of John Buchan (and the Richard Hannay series) and also of Anna Buchan (O Douglas) who was John's sister. Both wrote wonderful books and I have enjoyed each and everyone that I have written. So I was really excited to have a carry on Richard Hannay story in the offing. As soon as this book arrived in the mail I began to read and up to about two thirds of the way through I was really excited. The plot, the characters, the locales, the dialog and everything sort of lived up to John Buchan. Unfortunately the Thirty-One Kings didn't enter into the scene until almost the end and I'm still not sure that I have caught the allusion. Further, the plot started to slow down and lose its intensity, also its believability factor. It is good, and a very worthy candidate for the Buchan related shelf. I am sure that if Mr. Harris writes more stories he'll get there; he just needs a bit more practice at stretching out the suspense and finishing on a high. He's got a great set of characters and he's obviously done lots of research so he can carry forward their actions. Thanks for your efforts and I look forward to another story..
Excellent & Exciting.
I very much enjoyed this book. Exciting to the very end in my opinion. I also have read all of the Richard Hannay stories. It was fun to have him come to life again. One of the best new fiction books I have read in years.
