We are honored to welcome Dr. Him Sophy, one of Cambodia's foremost contemporary composers and a pioneering force in the development of classical music in the country, to The Threaded Path. From a childhood shaped by musical inheritance, civil war, and survival under the Khmer Rouge to rigorous study at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, he reflects on the determination that carried him forward. We explore how works such as Where Elephants Weep and Bangsokol: A Requiem for Cambodia have brought Cambodian stories, memory, and musical traditions to audiences around the world while helping shape the future of Cambodian classical music.
We are honored to welcome Phloeun Prim to The Threaded Path. Executive Director of Living Arts International, cultural leader, educator, and bridge-builder, Phloeun reflects on his journey from Canada back to Cambodia. We discuss questions of purpose, identity, and belonging that shaped his path. We also explore the evolution of Cambodian arts and culture over the past three decades, the balance between preservation and creativity, and why artists play a vital role in helping societies imagine their futures. This is a conversation about roots, responsibility, cultural confidence, and the courage to evolve.
In this conversation, Chef Nak reflects on growing up, questioning assumptions, and finding her role in shaping how Cambodia is seen by the world. Together, we explore identity, responsibility, cultural representation, and what it means to carry a country's story forward. Sometimes food is the subject, and sometimes, it is the doorway.
Watch the recording of The Conversation Continues: From Acts of Memory to The Threaded Path, a global launch that brought together participants from across at least three continents to explore memory, identity, creativity, and cultural continuity. In partnership with Cambodian Living Arts, the event featured poetry, dance, community reflections, the premiere of The Threaded Path, and a live panel discussion asking: What Happens When Memory Travels? Together, artists, cultural practitioners, and community members reflected on what we carry forward across generations, geographies, and creative practice. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this a meaningful beginning for the community forming around The Threaded Path.
A muralist and visual artist in practice, a storyteller and tremendous human being in spirit. You might have been awestruck by his works while strolling through Lowell Massachusetts, London, Paris, Battambang or many other places across the globe.
An epic conversation on intergenerational transmission, ancestral continuity, and play.
