At the end of the Torah, Moses blesses the tribes and then dies outside the land he has led Israel toward. Isaiah sees all nations coming to worship YHWH and a new creation dawning. Loving YHWH with all our heart means learning to bless others, lament what is broken, and entrust the unfinished story to Him.

Moses teaches Israel a song that tells their story before it happens—YHWH’s faithfulness, their forgetfulness, His discipline, and His ultimate compassion. Isaiah pictures new heavens and a new earth where former troubles are forgotten. Jesus eats with Zacchaeus, tells a parable about servants and a returning king, and rides into Jerusalem as humble King. Loving YHWH with all our heart means letting His song name us honestly, and still trusting His mercy enough to welcome His reign.

Moses “went” and spoke his last words to Israel. He hands leadership to Joshua, writes down the Torah, and calls the people to be strong because YHWH Himself goes with them—yet he also warns that they will fail and need reminding. Isaiah cries out for YHWH to tear open the heavens, confessing sin and appealing to Him as Father and Potter. Jesus welcomes children, challenges a rich ruler, predicts His suffering, and responds to a blind beggar who won’t stop calling out. Loving YHWH with all our heart means facing our weakness honestly and stepping forward anyway, trusting His presence like a child.

Moses tells Israel, “You are standing today before YHWH your God” as he renews the covenant. He looks ahead to exile and promises that when they return to YHWH with all their heart, He will gather and restore them. Isaiah remembers YHWH as Father and Redeemer even while watching judgment fall. Jesus teaches about the kingdom that comes quietly, days like Noah and Lot, and a tax collector who goes home right with God. Loving YHWH with all our heart means taking seriously where we stand today—and trusting His mercy more than our own goodness.

Moses looks ahead to the day when Israel will finally enter the land. He gives them liturgies for bringing firstfruits, confessing YHWH’s goodness, and renewing covenant. Isaiah announces good news to the poor and a new name for Zion. Jesus confronts love of money, heals lepers, and shows what grateful faith looks like. Loving YHWH with all our heart means seeing ourselves as guests in His generosity and responding with thankful, obedient lives.

Deuteronomy turns to the messy details of life “when you go out”—into war, into the fields, into marriage and business. The laws focus on protecting the vulnerable, honoring dignity, and keeping the camp holy even in ordinary moments. Isaiah pictures Zion radiant as nations stream to her light. Jesus calls for costly discipleship, tells stories of the lost being found, and warns about serving God versus money. Loving YHWH with all our heart means letting His character shape how we treat people in the small, hidden places of daily life.

Moses appoints judges and officials in every town and calls them to pursue justice without partiality. He warns against twisting judgment, taking bribes, shedding innocent blood, and ignoring responsibility in hard, messy cases. Isaiah laments that justice and truth have fallen in the streets, and YHWH Himself steps in as a warrior for righteousness. Jesus heals a bent woman on the Sabbath, confronts hypocrisy, and tells stories about who will actually enter the kingdom feast. Loving God with all our heart means letting His justice and mercy rule the “gates” of our lives.

Moses says, “See, I set before you today a blessing and a curse.” Israel is called to see clearly, refuse idols, care for the poor, and celebrate before YHWH. Isaiah exposes fasting that looks holy but ignores injustice. Jesus warns against hypocrisy, greed, and worry, and calls for repentance that bears fruit. Loving God with all our heart means letting Him reshape what we see as “normal” so we can choose life in the real world.

Moses tells Israel that “because” YHWH set His love on them, they are called to love and obey Him with their whole heart. He warns them not to fear the nations or forget YHWH when life goes well, and not to repeat the golden calf rebellion. Isaiah exposes the emptiness of idolatry and promises that YHWH dwells with the contrite and lowly. Jesus casts out a demon and confronts a generation that wants signs but resists repentance. Deuteronomy asks: What really drives your obedience—fear, pride, or love rooted in what YHWH has already done?

Moses pleads with YHWH to let him cross the Jordan—and hears a firm “No.” Instead, he is told to strengthen Joshua and to teach the people to listen, love, and obey. Isaiah welcomes foreigners and eunuchs who join themselves to YHWH. Jesus answers a question about eternal life with the story of a Samaritan who acts like a neighbor, then teaches His followers to pray to the Father who loves to give good gifts. Loving God with all our heart means trusting Him when He says “No,” and letting that trust overflow in costly love.
