Fat women face scorn, lost career opportunities and poor health care, Jeannine Gailey's research finds. The professor of sociology at TCU sat down with host Rachel Hedstrom to discuss the word fat without the pejorative sense, what an obesity diagnosis really means, and more.

“People who are fat are socially punished for not being able to change and acquire what we’ve deemed as a socially acceptable or a normative body," Gailey said. "And this results in many fat people internalizing a message of fat hatred.”
