The Top 5 with LaMusicJunkie

Are you ready for a healing conversation?

Multidisciplinary Kenyan artist Liboi has a lot of wise gems to share with us. When she's not making soulful Afrocentric music, she's directing films or attending art residencies in Rome. But her debut EP is one to stop you in your tracks and consider your own "State of Being".

Tune in to this episode of The Top 5 to find out:

* How her father influenced her music career

* The Italian artist who inspired her EP's theme

* What Kenya needs in order to heal

In this short and sweet interview (yes I said short), I was joined by the even sweeter and soft-spoken Kenyan musician Wendy Kay. From being a Sauti Academy alumna to Jamhuri Sessions guest artist to Coke Studio background singer, she's done it all. Her songs have also been featured on top Kenyan movies on Netflix.

The Kenyan female singer and music producer has experimented with R&B trap, kapuka, even Kenyan twist. With an EP and an album out, she's decided she's gonna do it "My Way".

Tune in to find out:

• Why she rebranded from Wendy Kemunto
• What she learnt at Coke Studio Africa
• Her favourite Kenyan music producers
• Why she restarted her Instagram page
• What her brand Kay Culture is all about

When I hosted Luka on this episode of The Top 5 with LaMusicJunkie, I didn't think it would get that DEEP. But the genre-bending Kenyan artist and creative director of The Kenyan Renaissance shared some pretty profound stories behind his debut album.

Featuring alternative Kenyan musicians such as Mwongeli, Muddah and Tony Oriema, the 2022 Kenyan album SANDUKU is a whole philosophical box of its own.

Tune in to this episode to find out:

• How Luka metamorphosized from producer to rapper
• Why he believes we're not free and still in Chains
• The Tanzanian chakacha band he sampled in Rafiki Adui
• How fatherhood has changed him
• His favourite Kenyan songs

And so much more!
